Smoothies have been the CRAZE for a while now. Growing up our family would make smoothies together. I always thought they were really good, but had no idea exactly how good they could be. When I say good, I mean taste as well as nutrition.
When it comes to healing, I always begin with nutrition. Nutrition is the foundation for all health and healing!
Since being diagnosed with a vestibular condition, I have researched and experimented with hundreds of smoothie recipes. Many of the smoothies found at juice bars or grocery stores are loaded with way too much sugar. After searching for a bit, I found the the "Fab Four Smoothie" created by Kelly Leveque (a well known nutritionist), is my secret weapon. This smoothie is designed to create blood-sugar balancing, which in turn keeps your energy levels up and keeps you feeling full longer and it's fantastic in lowering INFLAMMATION!
The Fab Four smoothie consists of Protein, Fiber, Fat and Greens.
For the protein: Look for clean vegetarian protein or Grass-fed protein. (20 -30 grams per serving)
For the fiber, use flaxseeds, chia seeds or avocado. (1-2 tablespoons)
For the fat, use coconut oil, nut butter or MCT oil. (1-2 tablespoons)
For the greens, use any green veggie you like..kale, spinach, basil, celery, cucumber, cilantro. ( 1-2 cups)
I also add a bit of frozen blueberries to chill the smoothie and give it a sweet taste. ( 1/2 cup)
My exact go to smoothie recipe:
2 tablespoons of Vital Proteins vanilla protein powder
2 tablespoons of chia seeds and 1/2 avocado
1 tablespoon of natural peanut butter
2 cups of kale
1/2 cup of frozen blueberries
1/2 cup of water or Almond or coconut milk
This recipe has changed my life, I drink it first thing in the morning and I feel energized and full for hours. Find something that you like in each category and personalize it for you. Trust me, you will love it.
