Vestibular Nutrition.. Friendly foods vs foods to avoid when healing from a vestibular condition.

After much research and trying to find ways to cope with my Vestibular Neuritis, I discovered that nutrition plays a major role (I feel the biggest role in the healing process). After changing my nutrition it was truly amazing how much my mind and body began to feel and heal.

I changed my diet to whole nutrition, meaning more plant based, whole grains and yummy fish and lean protein.

Vestibular Friendly Foods: I have found these healthy foods to be very helpful in the healing process

  1. Salmon or fish rich in Omega 3 fatty acid

  2. Dark veggies: kale, broccoli, spinach, asparagus, celery, cucumbers, cilantro, garlic

  3. Fruits: Apples, blueberries, strawberries, peaches, oranges, grapes

  4. Whole grains

  5. Protein: Chicken or turkey

  6. Beans ( some find beans to trigger vestibular symptoms, I do not

  7. Almonds

Foods to avoid for Vestibular conditions

1. Caffeine or energy drinks

2. Alcohol

3. Chocolate, especially dark chocolate

4. Sugar

5. Foods that contain sodium nitrate, like hot dogs, salami or lunch meats

6. Soy products: Miso or soy sauce

7. Tomatoes

8. Eggs ( they are a trigger for me)

7. Aged Cheeses

8. High sodium foods

Another helpful tool to incorporate is DRINK WATER! I can't emphasize enough how important it is to stay hydrated. Keep a water bottle with you at all times.

Regain balance and healing with the introduction of a healthy vestibular diet. This allows the nutrients to work together in your body, it also helps the triggers. A mix of veggies, fruits, whole grains and lean proteins are the way to go!
